Both the Kincade fire in Sonoma County, Northern California, and the Tick fire in Los Angeles County, Southern California, have caused several evacuations impacting hundreds of thousands of people within the community. Bright Funds has established The 2019 California Fire Response and Recovery Fund to support the communities impacted by these fires. This Fund is comprised of pre-vetted nonprofits providing emergency response in the region. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives to provide short-term and long-term response and recovery. We have initially selected organizations that are providing immediate relief needs, including rescue efforts and medical assistance. The composition of the nonprofits in this Fund are subject to change as we learn more about the needs on the ground.

The catastrophic destruction and devastation caused by the LA Wildfires is incomprehensible. Right now, immediate relief to help contain the fires and support the tens of thousands displaced is paramount. In the weeks, months, and years to come, sustained, community-based recovery efforts will be needed to revitalize and rebuild the LA community. Pease consider supporting the work of one of the many high-impact, on-the-ground organizations addressing the myriad of issues the fires are causing.

From Time Magazine: At least five people have died and thousands of residents have been forced to flee in the wake of raging wildfires in the Los Angeles region, as firefighters have struggled to contain several blazes that were fanned by strong winds and are expected to worsen. Fueled by low humidity and raging Santa Ana winds of up to 60 mph, the Palisades Fire burned through 17,234 acres by Thursday morning, while the Eaton Fire had spread across 10,600 acres. Both were 0% contained. Firefighters are battling five fires across the Los Angeles area at once. Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell crews are facing "unprecedented conditions,” and asked people to heed evacuation orders at a press conference on Wednesday morning. “This is a tragic time in our history here in Los Angeles, but a time when we’re really tested and see who we really are,” McDonnell said. This fund is to donate to organizations that are providing relief during this time.

Across the country, people like you and I are stuck at home, feeling both helpless and the need to help. Social distancing is working, but we can do more. In the coming weeks nearly every American will receive a stimulus check to help pay rent, shop for food, and support local businesses during the COVID19 pandemic. However, some of us are in stable financial situations and don't need that money now. We have the opportunity to redirect these funds in order to support members of our community who may not be so fortunate.
